Auf die Idee kann man kommen, außer dem Quintett um den Trompeter Martin Auer hat dies aber meines Wissens noch kaum einer in kompletter CD-Länge geschafft.  

 
Ideengeber für Auer war “OK Computer” von Radiohead, seit dem ersten Hören war klar, aus dieser und ähnlicher Musik muss man als Jazzer unbedingt was machen. Wer jetzt an eine der vielen “Rock & Pop Swings”-Scheiben denkt: weit gefehlt. Auer und seine Mannen haben die Feder selbst gespitzt und geschrieben. Und auch wenn das Dreckige des Indie manchmal zu kurz kommt, ist Indiejazz ein gelungener innovativer Versuch, die vier Buchstaben J-A-Z-Z neu zu buchstabieren. Die CD hätte mir eigentlich schon früher auffallen müssen: Berglandschaft und grasgrüner Himmel mit augenzwinkerndem Hirschgeweih.

jetzt ist es soweit: die Popmusik geht ins Museum. Und das aus gutem Grund, denn im Rahmen von Pop am Rhein wird zeigen die Städte Köln und Düsseldorf, dass sie sich eigentlich ganz lieb haben. In Ausstellungen im Heine Institut (ab 16.09.) und im Kölnischen Stadtmuseum (ab 12.12.) wird multimedial auf über 40 Jahre Popmusik zurückgeblickt.

Enno Stahl (einer der beiden Programmmacher) sagt: „Popkultur ist schnelllebig, alltäglich. Und gerade in einer Zeit der digitalen Datenverarbeitung ist das was gestern, also vor einem Jahr war, im Grunde schon nicht mehr vorhanden. Künstlergruppen sind unheimlich kurzlebig, deswegen muss man auch aus Sicht eines Archives sehr viel früher an die Phänomene rangehen.“

Parallel zu den Ausstellungen gibt es ein Rahmenprogramm mit reichlich Konzerten, Lesungen und Filmen.

Wenn in Köln die roten Fahnen mit der schlichten Aufschrift POP wehen, ist eines klar: die musikalisch nahezu irrelevanten Monate Juli und August nähern sich dem Ende und die neue Saison beginnt. Die C/O Pop hat zum vierten Mal ihre Pforten geöffnet und zeigt mehr denn je Flagge.

Denn was eine Veranstaltung braucht, die im Untertitel zwar festival, aber ebenso affair & conference trägt, sind nicht nur Clubs und Gigs, sondern Substanz. Und genau das hat man erkannt, bietet dem geneigten Besucher einen anspruchsvollen Mix aus Ausstellung, Konferenz, Vorträgen, Musikmesse, das Ganze am Samstag beim public day und freiem Eintritt. Noch im überschaubaren Rahmen und vielleicht auch etwas auf sich selbst gerichtet, aber das das hat ja auch was.

Nicht mehr lange, dann geht’s wieder los: Popkomm 2006.

Kongress, Shake Hands, blabla und natürlich Konzerte, auch Jazz. Quantität: geht so, Qualität im Vergleich zu den vergangenen Jahren: gar nicht schlecht. Schließlich schafft man in Berlin eh nicht mehr als ein, zwei Konzerte. Am Mittwoch ab in den Icon Club zu Jazzanova oder alternativ in den Kulturbahnhof Kreuzberg (KATO) zum European Soundclash mit Bands aus Luxemburg, Frankreich und Ungarn. Oder aber in die WABE zu Lyambiko & Co. Dort kann man gleich bleiben bis Donnerstag und sich die Finnish Jazz Night u.a. mit dem Iiro Rantala Trio (s.u.) und dem UMO Jazz Orchestra anhören. Freitag: Day Off, aber es gibt ja auch noch andere Musik.

Ob wir wollen oder nicht, der Sommer verabschiedet sich, Zeit für kurzes ein Resumee: Sommer 2006, das war WM, klar. In Köln und anderswo als das Ereignis mit allem drum und dran angekündigt, auch Kultur- also Musikprogramm. Im Vorfeld war ich erfreut und gespannt, schnell wurde klar, Schnaps ist Schnaps und Sport ist Sport, also nix mit tollen Open Air-Konzerten. Fast einzige Ausnahme: Lalo Schifrin und

auf dem Roncalliplatz.   Vor allem Letztere überzeugte durch eine unschlagbare Bühnenpräsenz und eine spontane und den klimatischen Umständen angepassten Improvisation über “Stormy Wheater”. Das war der Sommer, jetzt kommt der Herbst mit mächtig Festivals im Gepäck, im Rheinland werden nach und nach Viersen (September), Köln (Oktober) und Leverkusen (November) beschallt.

Das Neue daran: Reggae, Jazz & Soul funktionieren ab sofort zusammen, schließlich sindse alle drei maximal tanzbar. Bassmann Gary Crosby und seine Blaskapelle Jazz Jamaica machens möglich. 

Wenn in diesem Frühjahr von der Jazzmesse geredet wird, ist nicht eine Komposition von Wynton Marsalis oder sonst jemandem gemeint. Die Jazzmesse ist leibhaftig, man hat sie zwar noch nicht gesehen, kann aber: vom 23.-26. März in Bremen, der zugegebenermaßen heimlichen Hauptstadt des Jazz.  

Und wer hät’s gedacht: die Veranstalter versprechen Jazz von A bis Z. starttalkingjazz ist das Motto, und hoffentlich wird dabei nicht zu viel geredet, sondern auch was gehört. Das Programm klingt vielfältig und lässt hoffen: Konferenz, Festival, Symposium, Ausstellung. Nicht schlecht für den Anfang.

Horst Jankowski - den Namen muss man sich mal auf der Zunge zergehen lassen. Er klingt bestenfalls nach Wäschereibesitzer oder Tanzmusiker im Glitzeranzug. Letzteres ist richtig, Jankowski, der am 30. Januar seinen 70. gefeiert hätte, war einer der größten unter ihnen. Der Meister der schwingenden Tanzkappellen begann als Pianist, hat Caterina Valente, Ella und Miles begleitet und hat das RIAS Tanzorchester lange geleitet. Nicht zuletzt komponierte er zu Jazz verwandelte Easy-Listening-Perlen wie „A walk in the black forest“. Und wer’s nicht glaubt, möge sich am besten durch Hören der CD „black forest explosion“ eines Besseren belehren lassen.

Es gibt Dinge, die sind so, wie

sie sind, und daran ändert sich auch nichts. Zum Beispiel Reclam und die kleinen gelben Büchlein mit ihren Goethes, Schillers usw., an denen zu Schulzeiten das Spannendste die qualifizierten Kommentare und Zeichnungen älterer Schüler waren.

Schnitt und Sprung in die Neuzeit: die Reclam-Reihe macht jetzt Jazz. Auf über 200 Seiten schreibt Ralf Dombrowski in seiner „Basis-Diskothek Jazz“ über 120 Alben, die den Jazz mehr oder weniger geprägt haben.
